This post is a GLOW UP CHALLENGE and gives you 10 easy steps to a prettier you!
What exactly is a ‘Glow Up’? It’s a great question and a popular term today. It means to transform into a more attractive version of yourself, it’s you only better. With this Glow Up Challenge, these 10 easy steps will help you on your way to a prettier you.
1. Drink Water!
Start from the inside out by drinking water. I can’t stress enough the importance of drinking water. Water helps your kidneys and other bodily functions, it helps skin plump and glow, it can help with weight loss, stress and many other things so drink it, drink it, drink it!
Get a water bottle and start carrying it around like it’s your cellphone. I recommend investing in a Hydro Flasks, they’re cute, trendy and affordable. Hydro Flasks are double-wall vacuum insulation and will keep water cold up to 24 hours.
2. Start or Improve your Skincare Routine
If you have already implemented a good skincare routine, give yourself a pat on the back and keep up the good work! If you haven’t really thought much about skincare, now is a great time to start caring for your skin.
- Wash your face twice a day- Add a gentle cleanser to your skincare routine, but make sure you’re getting one for your skin type. I use Cetaphil Fase Wash, Hydrating Gentle Skin Cleanser and you can find it HERE. Make sure when you’re washing your face you aren’t harshly rubbing the delicate skin around your eyes, this can lead to premature wrinkles… YIKES!
- Add Hyaluronic Acid to your skincare routine- Hyaluronic Acid will visibly plump your skin and reduce fine lines within two weeks. I use and love IT Bye Bye Lines Hyaluronic Acid and you can find it HERE.
- Add a good moisturizer- I use Olay, Age Defying Classic Daily Renewal Lotion, With Sunscreen and you can find it HERE. This is a triple bonus for me I get a moisturizer, age defying benefit and sunscreen in one bottle- which saves time and money.
- Add a good night cream- Night creams are important because they help rebuild your skin cells at night- it’s not called beauty sleep for nothing. I like IT Cosmetics Confidence in Your Beauty Sleep and you can find it HERE. It’s a bit pricey side though, so if you don’t want to spend a lot starting out No7 Pure Retinol Night Cream is a comparable alternative, and you can pick it up HERE.
3. Exercise!
Exercise is so important and a great way to achieve your Glow Up faster. If you’re a beginner or a fitness freak it’s never too late to add something new to your routine. I’ve found what works best for me is having a gym membership. At first going to a gym was extremely intimidating and I focused more on working out at home, but I was never consistent, and I always found an excuse to do anything other than exercise. Paying for a gym membership made me feel like I had to go and exercise so I didn’t waste my money.
Here are a few tips to starting an exercise routine:
- Slow and easy! Slowly work into your routine. Rome wasn’t built over night, and you shouldn’t expect to be a fitness pro right out of the gate either.
- Hydrate! Drink plenty of water while you exercise, you want to stay hydrated.
- Try different types of exercise. What works for someone else might not work well for you.
- Mix it up! Try an exercise class, try water aerobics, go for a jog, the possibilities are endless and you’ll beneift as long as you’re getting out and moving.
- Listen to upbeat music while you exercise to help motivate you.
- Get a gym buddy! Exercising with a friend can help motivate you and make it more enjoyable.
4. Get Plenty of Sleep
Like eating healthy, drinking water and exercising, getting plenty of sleep is important to your health as well. Seven to nine hours are the recommended hours of sleep for an adult. While you’re asleep the body is busy performing vital processes like repair and maintenance on your body. Getting a good night’s sleep can also help with your mood, performance, and overall health.
5. Improve your Posture
Posture can make a huge difference in your appearance. It shows confidence and helps with bone structure. Start by becoming aware of how you present yourself. When you’re walking are your shoulders back? Is your head held high? Is your back straight? If you answered no to any of those questions that’s where you should start your focus.
6. Oral Hygiene
Oral hygiene is a must and a bright smile is an important part of your glow up transformation! Your teeth and gums are important to a healthy smile and looking your best.
- Visit your dentist twice a year for a checkup and a teeth cleaning.
- Brush your teeth morning and night- use a toothbrush that is gentle on your gums.
- Floss! Floss! Floss! This is a crucial step in oral hygiene and way too often overlooked.
- You can also use a teeth-whitening products for that extra glow up. I like Crest 3D White Professional Effects Teeth Whitening Kit, they’re easy and convenient to use and you can find them HERE.
7. Eat a Balanced Diet
Eating a balanced diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables will help fuel your body and prevent illnesses. A balanced diet includes these five food groups: fruits, vegetables, grains, lean proteins, and dairy.
The average person should be eating around 2,000 calories a day, but of course this depends on your body type, age, sex, and activity level.
If you have questions about your diet, you can always meet with a nutritionist or talk to your doctor.
8. Start doing Yoga
There are a variety of health benefits to doing Yoga, some of them include:
- Increase’s flexibility
- Helps reduce stress levels
- Improves balance
- Can improve back pain
- Improves sleep
- Helps relax the mind
- Helps improve posture
9. Get Organized
Organizing your house, work space, and life can drastically help you on your way to your Glow Up. Being organized can save you time and stress. When your life is more organized things come together more smoothly, stress levels are reduced and life is better in general.
10. Self-care
Life is busy and a lot of times it’s easy to overlook things you should be doing for yourself. If you’re a mom you know how easy this is to do because your kids most likely come first. However, you will be a much better mom, wife, husband, dad, partner, friend, employee etc. if you take a timeout to focus on YOU. Start by taking 10-15 minutes out of each day to do something you enjoy, like relaxing in a bubble bath, meditating, reading a book you’ve put aside, going for a walk in the park, go for a drive or just sit on your porch swing and enjoy the sunset. Whatever it is that makes you happy, make sure you’re taking time each day to do it.
In conclusion a Glow up is a transform into a more attractive version of yourself, it’s you only better. With this Glow Up Challenge, these 10 easy steps will help you on your way to a prettier you.
